The conceptual logic of the design of the column capital began from merging the two cultures, the Korean and the Greek Architecture. The initial thought was to define the typology of column profiles of the two architectural identities.

Module Studies

The introductory intention was about rethinking architectural backgrounds within a different perspective and understanding heritage and reinventing it in a different context. The question which is at stake is about the way we can recognize and reinterpret our own local cultures in a global scale.

Heritage is working as a source of inspiration that will take form in space by the operation of two different profiles of column capitals: the profile of the Korean column capital (Gonpo) and the negative of the profile of the Greek column capital. After lofting these two profiles and mirroring them in two axes we create a three dimensional symmetrical volume that will take the form of a column capital.
