 Facades are portraits.
Not only portraits of the building, but portraits of the surrounding as well;
they collect and reflect information.The project is about a set of portraits, reflecting the reality of the front and back faces of the Crenshaw Discount Store in Los Angeles.

Bathhouse
- Center Bath

This
proposal for an alternative future for Shanghai’s Shikumen Heritage includes a
hotel above ground and an underground bathhouse as machines of memories. The
new program is about setting the founding ground; a bathhouse that constructs a
heterotopia and places of bringing back memories. New forms of bathrooms are
created by carving and subtracting, creating a sense of grotto. The place
that the two programs (hotel + bathhouse) connect is the ground floor which functions as a threshold and an in between space between
the two. The floor is carved in the same way as the floor and ceiling of the
underground floor.
Nostalgic memories, which are the ones missing, should be
visible and will be the ones that will continue existing. Nostalgic memories
will be identified in the morphology of the new form of the hotel, as the
element of the pitched roof of the typology of the Lilong won’t be replaced but
it will be transformed.

Rhikea

Under the Mediterranean sun, this house in Rhikea is meant to reinterpret geometries through new spatial forms, geometries that are drawn through shadows and light.

&#60;img width="1600" height="901" width_o="1600" height_o="901" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/3fbb50685090b99e9c9eb07174f1cd0f2fa4815139f4e6e2ee5b190ff3c5615f/2_Courtyard-View.jpg" data-mid="252309747" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/3fbb50685090b99e9c9eb07174f1cd0f2fa4815139f4e6e2ee5b190ff3c5615f/2_Courtyard-View.jpg" /&#62;

Shadows are not just the manifestation of disappearing light, but the expression of shaping forms. These forms transform through time, they are soft shapes that project and intersect with rigid structures.&#60;img width="1600" height="1347" width_o="1600" height_o="1347" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/bda9b9f5f5d28f8033fcd7ca52d24923b956b8aff560270da1078edf4ab097ba/5_Drawings.jpg" data-mid="252309750" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/bda9b9f5f5d28f8033fcd7ca52d24923b956b8aff560270da1078edf4ab097ba/5_Drawings.jpg" /&#62;

In the afternoon, these geometries disappear, and they transform into a softer mass that almost dematerializes and loses the perception of the grid. Over the course of one day, the structure of the grid dissolves, it becomes a uniform surface that covers gently the topography of the site. At night all these forms are erased, in order to be rediscovered the next day with the morning sunlight.

 The reasoning of this project lies behind the greek law of the withdrawal of the fishing vessels. According to this law, fishermen can withdraw their boats in order to get a considerable financial support with the only condition being the dissolution of their boats. As a result, this policy forces a lot of fishermen to destroy their boats in order to get this financial grant. In other words, this means destroying not only the way of living of many families in the islands of Greece, but also damaging part of the history,

	&#60;img width="1146" height="1218" width_o="1146" height_o="1218" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/5875d653223bd22a7f45bb68a54606dc938f6bf382fc38b20ee50381353c7ee3/20221103-17-18.jpg" data-mid="159203837" border="0" data-scale="96" data-no-zoom src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/5875d653223bd22a7f45bb68a54606dc938f6bf382fc38b20ee50381353c7ee3/20221103-17-18.jpg" /&#62;

	&#60;img width="1233" height="1171" width_o="1233" height_o="1171" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/93ff4560c9184006c3c2c870747ad93c610c73414dca17a066030496226aac7b/20221103-17-182.jpg" data-mid="159203836" border="0" data-scale="100" data-no-zoom src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/93ff4560c9184006c3c2c870747ad93c610c73414dca17a066030496226aac7b/20221103-17-182.jpg" /&#62;

The main idea is to find a way to protect the traditional wooden fishing vessels, by re-purposing the function of the boats in order to be prevented from dissolution. In this way the fishermen will still get a percentage of the financial support, according to the policy and the fishing boat is temporarily transforming in to an itinerant structure. During the summer and daytime this structure will function as a classroom and during the evening hours will perform as a theater. Whereas in winter and autumn, when there is no fish shortage, the vessel will continue functioning as a fishing boat. The form of the deck is not corresponding to the curvature of the boat in order to intensify the juxtaposition between the linear form of the structure and the curved geometry of the vessel. This ambiguity is evoking the fact that the whole structure is actually a boat but you can not really see it. One can understand what is under only if it gets disassembled. During the evening hours, the classroom can be easily disassembled and by taking out the front beams. The liberated space can function as a stage for the theater, while the supporting spaces and the backstage are hidden by the curtains. Hence, the whole configuration works as a space for performance.

	&#60;img width="2362" height="2024" width_o="2362" height_o="2024" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/12c7623cc9764a053d995bdc2ead4d3be165e1a27777a197792bdd51a1957320/theater-not-calm.jpg" data-mid="159199152" border="0" data-no-zoom src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/12c7623cc9764a053d995bdc2ead4d3be165e1a27777a197792bdd51a1957320/theater-not-calm.jpg" /&#62;
Light fabrics and textiles are transforming the module from a thin framework to an enclosed space.

The materiality of the module is consisted from wooden beams, straw fabrics, linen textiles, steel wire rope and fish nets. All of these components are coming together to assemble one full module which will ultimately function as a classroom. The only constrain is the location of the steering wheel, whereas the arrangement of the furniture can be adjustable and reconfigured according to the students’ needs. The furniture are fold-able elements: tables and chairs that can be folded and stored when they are not longer needed.

The overall ambition is reflecting into light materials, such as curtains that are operable in order to reveal or hide the backstage. The theater formation is discharged from the intention of having a rigid and very fixed stage, by allowing the waves to slightly move the boats. During the summer, in case of a storm the structure will need to return to the shore, get disassembled and be stored for future use.

The possible scenarios are based on the degree of urbanization of the specific territory; starting from an urban region near the port of Syros Island, to a less urban region of a village in Andros, or to an inaccessible beach in Milos. All of these scenarios are flexible configurations of different assemblies.

More modules assembled together can act as a stage and the rest of the boats and modules take the role of the audience. The ultimate aim is that the whole structure performs as an attracting point for the Aegean Archipelago which creates future possibilities of rethinking the sea as a way of living.</description>

 A majority of Ishkashim’s livelihoods revolves around agriculture which makes the water essential for the life the of residents.

90% of the water system is managed by the local community, yet Ishkashim lacks safe water supplies.

Our urban vision for the territory of Ishkashim initiates from the aspiration of creating a resilient water network that will be produced from resilient scales of protection and distribution of water resources. That will allow to find a way to make the water more visible and turn the approach of viewing it as a mechanistic system into a sacred resource which will form the settlement, by envisioning the future possibilities and protect from potential disasters.

The ultimate aim is not just to improve the water infrastructure of Ishkashim, but to set the basis for a resilient society.

The latest definitions of generic and specific originate from the reverse roles that are defined by the International Style of Early Modernism; the generic becomes a device of sterilization and homogenization of everything specific and local, whereas the specific takes the role of regaining all the lost local elements that generality already homogenized.

Basically, the relation between specific and generic could be defined as an eternal loop, that each time, the specific is reclaiming the lost ground of the generic.

Arts District, Los AngelesThis project aims to redefine generic specificity at the territory of Arts District in downtown Los Angeles. The generic type at the building’s exterior contrasts the specific elements of the interior. This condition of contrasts that produces ambiguity between the generic and the specific is used as a tool in order to relate the interior with the exterior.

Designing in a specific context (Arts District, Los Angeles) is inevitably connected with means that identify beauty in that specific context. Beauty can be caused by two factors, according to Colin Rowe; one factor is nature, which is produced by geometry and proportions and the other factor is custom use, which is related to the notion of familiarity.

Based on this hypothesis, one could argue that there is an analogy
between these two notions and the generic specificity.

In other words, the definitions of generic and specific need to be contextualized. Especially the customary beauty cannot be identified without its contextual relations. In this proposal, the purely geometrical and structural qualities of the building are contrasted with the customary that is found through use and familiarity in the interior configuration, by using different modes of artificial and natural light, air circulation and visual connections between the spaces.

The overall form derives from the permitted boundaries of the zoning code, without obeying to the curved wall of the toy factory which is located on the south border of the site. On the contrary, the exterior façade at the north and east side are composed according to the street inclination. The form consists of three basic elements: two bars and one courtyard.

The form of the building results from the aspirations of maximizing the natural light and air in the interior spaces, by creating two similar volumes. These volumes, although they might appear as repetitive figures, they operate as supplementary masses.
